Although Reno, Nev., still offers plenty of gambling, the Biggest Little City in the World is slowly transforming itself into a more urbane center of arts and outdoor adventure. And the ski resorts of Lake Tahoe, Calif., rank among the Top 15 in the country, with snowcapped slopes promising the perfect ride both for snowboarders and skiers.
